Chivas USA midfielder and Huntington Beach native Sacha Kljestan was named on Saturday to the MLS Best XI, an annual award recognizing the Major League Soccer's top 11 players at each individual position on the field - one goalkeeper, three defenders, five midfielders and two forwards.

The Columbus Crew will meet the New York Red Bulls to crown Major League Soccer's champion on Sunday, Nov. 23, but the action surrounding MLS Cup starts well before then, as in the days leading up to the game, events in and around The Home Depot Center will thrill soccer fans of all ages.

Chivas USA lost to Real Salt Lake by 1-0 in the first leg of the teams' Western Conference Semifinal Series. Now, with RSL holding a slight advantage entering Saturday's second leg at The Home Depot Center, it might not seem quite as difficult to figure out RSL's game plan.

On Nov. 4, 2007, Chivas USA's season came to an end. The Red-and-White were held to a scoreless draw against Kansas City and crashed out of the 2007 MLS Cup Playoffs 1-0 on aggregate goals. With Chivas heading home from Real Salt Lake facing a similar deficit in Western Conference Semifinal Series this year, a comparison to last year would be simple.

In 2006, Chivas USA played host to a playoff game for the first time, and the energy in the stands that day propelled the Red-and-White to a victory against a higher-seeded team. Now, it is Chivas USA who is the higher seed and must play on the road against the energetic first-time playoff team.

In three-plus years of existence, Chivas USA have had plenty of achievements, including the Western Conference title a year ago. But there is one accomplishment the club must attain if the Red-and-White wants to achieve the ultimate level of success: the club must win a playoff series for the first time.

Trying to make it through Saturday's season finale against Houston without any injuries was seemingly the most important aspect of an otherwise meaningless match, and Chivas USA accomplished just that.

In a game that meant little, Chivas USA lost a lot. Dan Kennedy, who was in goal for Chivas USA when the club won five of six games in September and October, was sent off early in the second half and will miss the club's playoff opener at Real Salt Lake on Nov. 1.

The Houston Dynamo and Chivas USA exchanged second-half goals before the teams settled for a regular season-ending 1-1 draw Saturday at The Home Depot Center. Houston's Dwayne De Rosario scored on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute, just after Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy was sent off, while Chivas USA's Jim Curtin knocked in a rebound in the 90th minute to help a 10-man Chivas USA squad salvage a point.
