D.C. United players will be making appearances in the community this week. Ben Olsen will be joining the fight against AIDS in Survivor winner Ethan Zohn's Grassroot Soccer United Dribble 2008 at the National Mall Monday.

D.C. United announced Monday the club has waived midfielder Jeff Carroll. The 24-year old made two first team appearances for D.C over three seasons with the club.

D.C. United Tuesday announced plans for the club's annual Holiday Equipment Sale. Set for Saturday, December 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event will be held at the VW Lounge in RFK Stadium and will feature authentic D.C. United team-issued gear.

D.C. United Academy standouts Alex Herrera and Travis Pittman were among the 72 players selected to attend the upcoming U.S. Under 18 National Team training camp, which will take place from December 28 to January 5, 2009 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

D.C. United announced Thursday goalkeeper Zach Wells underwent successful foot surgery. US National Team Podiatrist, Dr. Howard Liebeskind, of the Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group, performed the surgery today at the West Hills Surgical Center in Los Angeles.

Several D.C. United Academy players trained with members of the first team this week. Under 18 standouts Junior Bioh, Uwem Etuk, Chris Hegngi, Alex Herrera, Travis Pittman and Paul Torres all earned the chance to train alongside the Black-and-Red's professional players.

D.C. United announced Thursday that forward Jaime Moreno underwent successful knee surgery yesterday. Team physician Dr. Chris Annunziata performed arthroscopic surgery at Virginia Hospital Center to clean the articular cartilage and remove a meniscal defect. Moreno will be ready for full participation in time for preseason next year.

Under-18 D.C. United Academy player Travis Pittman has been accepted to attend West Virginia University. Pittman will be joining fellow Academy teammate Peabo Doue, who had already committed to the Mountaineers.

D.C. United announced today the winner of the Copa D.C. VIII, the yearly 6v6 indoor tournament hosted by the club and presented by Volkswagen and associate sponsor, The Electrical Alliance. La Mara continued their dominance in D.C. United's annual tournament, winning the championship for the eighth consecutive season.

D.C. United announced Friday the club raised $10,000 to benefit the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center, located at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, MD. The proceeds raised from the sale of D.C. United Breast Cancer Awareness merchandise were donated during halftime of United's final game of the 2008 season against CD Marathon on Wednesday, October 29.

D.C. United finally concluded their CONCACAF Champions League campaign with a 4-2 loss to CD Marathon at RFK Stadium on Wednesday night, a frustrating defeat that in many ways represented a microcosm of their entire ill-fated season.
