At least in the eyes of FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman, two players were left unprotected for Wednesday afternoon's expansion draft with a good chance of being picked by Seattle Sounders FC: goalkeeper Ray Burse and defender Aaron Pitchkolan.

Kenny Cooper was one of the few bright spots for FC Dallas in 2008. After finishing second in the league with 18 goals, Cooper was honored at the Gala Awards Dinner the night before MLS Cup 2008 with two honors, as he was named the 2008 MLS Comeback Player of the Year and also named to the league's Best XI.

Kenny Cooper's promising career was knocked off track a season ago by a broken right leg. After a standout 2008, Cooper's career is firmly back on course, and the FC Dallas forward was rewarded Saturday with the MLS Comeback Player of the Year award and a spot on the 2008 Best XI team.

To anyone watching FC Dallas in 2008, it was apparent that the Hoops were a side with good talent. But if there was a chink in the FCD armor, it was that they were prone to frequent lapses in concentration, gaffes that often led to goals that either resulted in ties -- or, in several cases, losses.

FC Dallas today announced Friday that Kenny Cooper has been selected as the team's Most Valuable Player and Pablo Ricchetti has been named the team's Defender of the Year as voted by members of the local media.

Drew Moor has been with FC Dallas since 2005, when he was the sixth overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft. With the recent retirement of Bobby Rhine, he and fellow defender Aaron Pitchkolan are now the two longest-tenured players for the Hoops. A consistent performer at either right or center back, Moor was given a multiple-year contract extension by FCD earlier this week.

One area that won't need addressing for FC Dallas is goalkeeper. The club announced Tuesday that it had reached an agreement with veteran Dario Sala for him to remain with FCD.

Over the last three seasons, it was almost expected that FC Dallas would make the playoffs. In fact, heading into this campaign, only twice in club history had the Hoops missed out on the postseason.

Drew Moor and Victor Sikora scored in a five-minute span in the first half to give FC Dallas the lead, but the Los Angeles Galaxy got a late equalizer from Landon Donovan as the teams ended their 2008 seasons with a 2-2 draw at The Home Depot Center on Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday afternoon at The Home Depot Center, FC Dallas will face the Los Angeles Galaxy in a matchup featuring two teams that will not advance to the MLS Cup Playoffs. Many might call it a meaningless affair but don't say that to the Hoops, who are treating their final installment of the 2008 season as another big game.

FC Dallas's Bobby Rhine announced Wednesday that he will retire from professional soccer following the team's last game of this season on Sunday, Oct. 26 at the LA Galaxy. Rhine, who has played his entire 10-year career with FC Dallas, is one of only 17 players in League history to have played at least 200 games for one team.

On Sunday, FC Dallas and the Los Angeles Galaxy will meet at The Home Depot Center in a game that has no bearing on the MLS Cup Playoffs picture, with both teams eliminated from contention. But the game will have great import as to who wins the Budweiser Golden Boot Award as the league's top scorer.

In the last five games at home for FC Dallas, they are just 1-2-2. However, on the road, FCD has been a bit better, at 2-1-2 in their last five away from Pizza Hut Park.

Real Salt Lake play their second game in their new stadium hoping to make some more history - qualifying for a first-ever spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs when they play host to FC Dallas at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Much of the 2008 season for FC Dallas has been characterized by near misses. Whether it has been matches where the Hoops have led, coughed up that advantage and had to scramble to secure a draw, or other matches where they have trailed early before scoring late to salvage a point, FCD have a history of those types of results over the year.

Outside of league play this season, FC Dallas has won the USA/Brazil Challenge with South American partner Clube Atletico Paranaense and taken the Copa El Mexicano against Mexican side Club America, while also capturing the Brimstone Cup for a seventh consecutive season in their regular season series with the Chicago Fire.

Just nine days ago, FC Dallas played San Jose to a 1-1 draw at Pizza Hut Park. In that tie, the Hoops were bailed out by a late penalty kick in the 89th minute that was converted by Kenny Cooper, allowing FCD to escape with a point.

For the second time in as many games, FC Dallas came back to claim a point thanks to a last-minute penalty kick, finishing in a 2-2 tie with Toronto FC on Saturday evening at Pizza Hut Park. Kenny Cooper converted the penalty kick -- on a second attempt -- for his second goal of the night and 18th of the season, tying the Dallas club record and for the moment moving the Hoops into fourth place in the Western Conference.
